"I have traveled all over the world, but never have I experienced such peaceful beauty, and solitude. The accommodations were top notch and the setting was heavenly. When I got back, I felt as beautiful as the place. I can't say enough about the owners. They knew how to give great service and privacy at the same time, not always an easy task. This place is a well kept secret, but not for long. I can't wait to get back, I plan to make this an annual trip."

Ammouliani is an island with endless possibilities. It is
located just 3 kilometers from mainland Halkidiki and this unique location
opens the doors for you to experience an Aegean island
holiday together with discovering mainland Halkidiki,
where mountain meets sea in a dramatic green and blue
landscape. The area is teaming with archeological
artifacts from Xerxes travels here, Aristotle’s
birthplace in Stagira to the well known ancient city of
Acanthos (today's Ierissos). Ammouliani is near the
Byzantine monastic peninsula of Mount Athos where ancient and
classical texts, religious icons and other treasures can
be found. Getting a permit to visit the monasteries is
difficult, and women are strictly forbidden, but daily
boat excursions leave the island each morning so men and
women alike can get a glimpse of Byzantium as it was a
thousand years ago. Hike or go horseback riding on
Holomondas, a beautiful mountain just 35 minutes away,
or explore the more populated peninsulas of Sithonia and
Kassandra. Visit the impressive Caves of Petralona, or
walk in the paths of King Philip and Alexander the
Great. The opportunities are endless.

Ammouliani is a small island (just 4.5 square kilometers)
with 1 village and less than 600 inhabitants. The island
belonged to Mount Athos and was used for the grazing of
animals as well as the tending and harvesting of olives.
During the time of the Asia Minor Catastrophe in the early
1920's, the monks gave the island to a handful of
refugees from the islands of Gallimi, Pasalimani and
Skoupia in Asia Minor. The refugees continued their
trade in fishing, which is still prominent today, and
slowly built their lives on their new island home. Over
the years, the local Greeks discovered the island and
began visiting to swim and fish in the exceptionally
clear waters. Today, the tourists that come here are
still primarily Greek. Ammouliani is yet unknown to the
outer world making this the perfect holiday destination
for those who want to experience the true Greece without
compromising your standard of living.

Island commerce includes local health services and
pharmacy, quaint seaside tavernas, traditional
gyros/souvlaki shops, general stores and grocery stores, 2
bakeries, a handful of shops, cafιs/bars, and two night
clubs. Motorbike and bicycle rentals are also available for
exploring the island and boats and kayaks are available for
rent to explore the sea and coast.
Hike the path that leads down to the sea to private
swimming coves where you can enjoy snorkeling, swimming or
fishing from the rocks. There are small motor boats for
rent at the beach below your holiday rental to discover the
nearby "donkey islands" or stop for lunch and shopping in
Ouranoupolis just across the way. You can also rent sea
kayaks and canoes for an Aegean adventure, or, simply relax
all day on the calm sandy beaches under the welcoming Greek
sun. At the end of the day relax and enjoy the breathtaking
sunsets behind Mt. Olympus on the horizon from your private
balcony or join us at our home on our cliff-side veranda
for an iced herbal tea or coffee and see just how easy it
is to create ever-lasting memories to take home with you.

"This is to let you know that we had a wonderful
holiday on your beautiful island. This is really the right
place for a quiet (no disco nearby) holiday with pristine
seawater beaches with safe slopes for children and private
coves, to marvel at Mount Athos (shame that no women are
allowed) and to enjoy the stunning views over the island
and sea. We fell in love with Villa Maria, a beautiful
greek family house (with open fire for wintery days), with
a back terrace overlooking a large garden area and a very
large front terrace - again with stunning views -
overlooking the surroundings with great barbecue
facilities. The very hospitable and helpful greek/american
owners live nearby, which is convenient if you have any
queries, but if not, far away enough so as not to disturb
your privacy. As we have 3 young children (10-5-2 yrs) we
were very happy with her lovely twins (6 yrs) living there:
all five had a big time playing around, which was very safe
as the nearest traffic road is half a km away (also no
traffic noise). Also, just a merely 10 minutes ferry ride
away are beautiful unspoiled woods on the shore to be
explored (we are hiking enthusiasts). In short: a truly
enjoyable environment for a great holiday!"
